This is a unit designed with the purpose of fostering an appreciation of poetry through a variety of listening, reading, speaking and writing activities focusing on several poems by the late, renowned literary genius Langston Hughes. Students will also have the opportunity to define their personal goals and aspirations for the future as the selected poems represent Hughes' recurring theme of "dreams." The life of Langston Hughes and the period with which he is most associated--The Harlem Renaissance--with will also be explored.
