In the 1920s and 30s, an abundance of literary, musical, and artistic expression poured out of Harlem. Writers, artists, and philosophical thinkers reshaped the cultural landscape of America and gained recognition for African American civil rights. The period ended in the mid-1930s but its impact swept the nation and changed history forever.
It has been called the New Negro Movement and Artistic Rebirth.
But it is best known as the Harlem Renaissance.
