So what is Leukemia anyway?

 

Merriam and Webster's Defintion of Leukemia:

Function: noun
Etymology:New Latin
Date:circa 1855
 
: an acute or chronic disease in humans and other warm-blooded animals characterized by an abnormal increase in the number of white blood cells in the tissues and often in the blood
 
National Cancer Institute's Defintion of Leukemia:
 

leukemia (loo-KEE-mee-uh)

Cancer that starts in the blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow and causes large numbers of blood cells to be produced and enter the blood stream.  

 

Did you know that "Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and adolescents"? Leukemia accounts for almost 33% of all childhood cancers!!!
