- : an acute or chronic disease in humans and other warm-blooded animals characterized by an abnormal increase in the number of white blood cells in the tissues and often in the blood
- National Cancer Institute's Defintion of Leukemia:
- leukemia (loo-KEE-mee-uh)
Cancer that starts in the blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow and causes large numbers of blood cells to be produced and enter the blood stream.
