Today, you will be looking at several photographs taken during the time of the Cold War. You may or may not have heard of the people or places pictured. Some photos will have captions to help you.

Your task is to play historian: analyze the photograph using the guidelines provided and figure out who or what the photo depicts.

When you have analyzed the photo, you will do an online search to find out some background information about its subject, and its importance to the Cold War. 

In the coming weeks, we will uncover more and more details about the Cold War, from its beginnings after World War II to its end in the late 1980s. Today, your goal is to construct some background knowledge to better help you understand.
