Colossus of Rhodes

Colossus of Rhodes

This wonder was a very large statue of the Greek God Helios which was built on the island of Thodes after a succesful battle between 292 and 280BC.  At 100 feet high, the statue was the tallest statue in the ancient world during its time (Wikipedia)

Who was Helios?  How was it destroyed?  Who built it and why?
