Uma Krishnaswami had other careers before she became a writer, or author, of published books. Add the word "author" to your detective sheet next to clue #4 if it's not already there.  She always loved to write, but she just never thought that she could become  a famous author.

Pen and Paper

As Uma took the adult writing course and as she wrote books for her son, she realized that she didn't have to become an author-- she had been one since she was a child. 1 She now says, "If you write often, because you feel like writing, you're a writer. It's that simple."2

Are you a writer, or author, too? After you think about your answer to that question, go on to Clue #5.
