-Use Mozilla Firefox as your browser while completing this buILder. Glitches occur when this program is used with Internet Explorer.
-Please excuse any spacing/ alignment issues with the paragraphs. The alignment looks different on screens of different sizes.
-PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer must be installed on the computer(s) used for this lesson. If the PowerPoint in Clue #1 opens in PowerPoint instead of in PowerPoint Viewer on the computer(s), instruct students to click on "Slide Show--> View Show" in order to be able to click on the speakers and hear the sound effects. They will then have to close PowerPoint instead of just pressing "Escape."
-Sounds in the PowerPoint within Clue #1 are mp3 files.
Lesson Notes:
-Depending on the grade level and your own preferences, this buILder can be used as a whole-class activity (using a SmartBoard or computer/ large screen combination) or as an activity completed by individual students.
-If students complete the activity individually. . .
- Students should be taught the following computer skills before beginning:
- Opening each new page of the buILder by clicking on the appropriate button on the left side
- Scrolling to the bottom of each page to make sure they have read all of the information before continuing to the next page
- Closing the PowerPoint page opened within Clue #1
- Closing opened websites by "x" ing them out without "x"ing out the BuILder screen
- The questions that don't require written answers within the buILder can be used in a wrap-up class discussion. These questions include:
- How is India similar to/ different from where you live?
- Why are the best writers frequent readers?
- Uma Krishnaswami says, "If you write often, because you feel like writing, you're a writer." * Do you consider yourself a writer? Why or why not?
- If students have had time to look over the rest of the Uma Krishnaswami site or if you have the books set up in your room- Which book are you most excited to read and why?
- How is India similar to/ different from where you live?
- You may want to complete the citation section at the bottom of the page together or modify/ remove it to meet your needs
