I envision the school library as the place students and staff come to meet their need for access to resources, exposure to an expanse of literary options, and building blocks required for life long learning.

B. Literacy & Reading

  • A is for Author!   A school covers its doors with authors and Illustrators , A to Z

A number of years ago, my principal toured another elementary school where every classroom door was covered with student work, usually a response to literature, backed by brightly colored paper, and then sealed with plastic for protection.  In the beginning, this task was overwhelming for some teachers: just getting the paper on the door and then the plastic - - whew!  Well, it has been at least five years since we began decorating our doors at P. S. 160.  As I was thinking about ways to promote literacy throughout the school, I wondered,  “Why not have all the doors reflect a theme?”.  As my wheels turned, A is for Author! started to take shape.
