Once the weeding was completed, there was room to display titles.  Circulation increased noticably once students could "read" the shelves and see titles ranging from Beloved to Homeboyz to The Little Prince.

 

  • Canarsie High School in Brooklyn, NY houses a library with almost 40,000 volumes.  At the request of the head librarian I took a good, hard look at the FICTION subcollection that housed the "classics" and titles more suited to the reading tastes of teachers.  This Collection Development project includes details regarding weeding and collection policies, as well as an annotated list of recommendations for new titles more suited for urban high school readers.
